Croatia has several regions known for producing high-quality olive oil, including Istria, Dalmatia, and the island of Korčula. There are several factors that contribute to the high quality of Croatian olive oil such as terrain, traditional production methods, climate and high quality olives. Some of the best Croatian olive oils are:
Olea BB – This Istrian extra virgin olive oil won the gold medal at the New York International Olive Oil Competition in 2020. It has a fruity flavor with a hint of bitterness and a slightly spicy finish.
Agrolaguna – Another Istrian olive oil, Agrolaguna has won numerous awards over the years, including the gold medal at the Los Angeles International Olive Oil Competition in 2019. It has a medium fruity flavor with notes of almond and a slightly bitter finish.
Boškinac – Produced on the island of Pag, Boškinac has won several awards, including the silver medal at the New York International Olive Oil Competition in 2020. It has a rich, fruity flavor with notes of tomato and a slightly spicy finish.
Kastel – This Dalmatian olive oil won the gold medal at the New York International Olive Oil Competition in 2019. It has a fruity flavor with a hint of bitterness and a peppery finish.
Maslina Buža – Produced on the island of Korčula, Maslina Buža won the silver medal at the New York International Olive Oil Competition in 2020. It has a fruity flavor with a slightly bitter finish and a peppery aftertaste.
